Fisheye Photography

“Fisheye” photographs are taken with a very wide-angle lens. Fisheye lenses (For example: the Sigma 8mm F4 Fisheye) were originally developed for meteorologists to capture the entire sky in order to study cloud formations. The lenses are also a cool way to get creative with photography. They give photos a distorted view that can be very interesting.

These wide angle lenses can cost hundreds of dollars, but there is an inexpensive way to get a similar look with just a few dollars. I taped a peep hole that I had in my junk draw to an old digital camera.

Here are a few of the photos. Of course, these are no where near as good as what you can capture with a professional lens, but still fun. I’m keeping a human eye on ebay for a deal on a used lens for my Canon Rebel.

Networking

The computer kind… I decided to upgrade my network with the new Wireless-N technology. The draft “n” standard is still not finalized, but far enough along – I think – to make the leap. I went with Linksys (WRT610N), since I’ve found them reliable in the past. This router is faster than my old G and also has great range.

The router comes with Linksys EasyLink Advisor, which makes the setup easy and it gives a nifty graphic view of your network. The router has 4 ports on the back for my desktops, which are wired and the laptops found the network automatically. Sharp looking device too. I was a bit leery of the built in antenna, but it works like a dream. Nice when upgrades go so smoothly.

Google Chrome

I downloaded the new Google Chrome web browser today. I just heard about it and I think it was just released a few days ago. I’m trying it out now. The first thing I noticed was that it is very fast. Pages load noticeably faster than Firefox or Internet Explorer. I also like the clean sparse look. I’m sure we will be hearing a lot more about this new browser. I’m a Firefox user and I won’t be surprised if Chrome takes some users away from Firefox, which is kind of sad. But for right now, Firefox 3 is still the best browser.

Download it here and give it a try.
