HATCHET

HATCHET, originally uploaded by BissellBlog2.0.

Aaron loves making movies, it’s pretty much all he does in his free time. He films his own movies, transfers the files to his computer, edits the footage, adds sounds, music and special effects and shares them on-line. Not bad for an ex-preemie with special needs. He has made hundreds of movies, some are quite good, some are not-so-good. But he has fun and filming is a wonderful outlet for his imagination and creativity.

Recently, he has become interested in horror movies. At first I was a bit concerned about the new direction of his films. But Aaron’s focus is on the art of creating a scary movie and technical aspects of the special effects, rather than to the gore and violence. Aaron understands the difference between movies and real life. He also has a kind heart and is non-violent. He is just having fun with his scary movies.

He has his own youtube.com “channel” where he posts some of his films. One of his films captured the attention of Hollywood director, Adam Green who directed the movie” HATCHET”. Hatchet is an old-school-type horror film released in 2006. Aaron did a “fan film” which is now featured on Adam Green’s personal blog! Adam and Aaron have emailed back and forth and Adam sent Aaron this autographed movie poster! Aaron was so excited when the poster arrived in the mail! He now has it framed and hanging in his room.

Adam also sent Rich and I a nice email, here is an excerpt:

“I just want to say how nice it is to hear from parents who see the value in this genre and support the creativity that it inspires. I was raised the same way with very liberal and loving parents who took the time to experience these films with me and make sure that I took the right things out of them. If I could only convey to you what it was like to be treated like a criminal by the Motion Picture Association of America who went after me so personally and so hard for HATCHET- while turning the other cheek on the not-so-fun films that convey realistic torture, rape, sex, and drug use (but are supported by major studios with lots of money)…it would break your heart. I’m proud to be one of the good guys in Aaron’s life as that’s all I ever aspired to be.”

Adam Green is obviously a kind, intelligent and talented man. I’m sure his parents are as proud of him as we are of Aaron.
Thanks Adam!

Sweeney Todd

I’m not a big movie fan and Sweeney Todd – the Demon Barber of Fleet Street – is not the kind of movie that I would typically be interested in seeing. However, my son Aaron really wanted to see it, so I agreed to take him. The film stars Johnny Depp as Sweeney Todd and is directed by the creative Tim Burton. I love this film! The cinematography is fantastic. I especially like the contrast between dreary and gloomy London and Mrs. Lovett (Helena Bonham Carter’s) beach fantasy.

Can Johnny Depp sing? Yes he can! Not the best singer in the world, but he pulls it off nicely along with his outstanding acting ability. The music is great, but the story is even better. I found myself getting so engrossed in the story, that sometimes I didn’t even notice that the characters were singing. Tim Burton did a super job making a believable and scary musical, not an easy task. But this movie is more than a musical, this film has it all; funny dark humor, sad, bloody, gory, grizzly, suspenseful, thrilling, horrible and heartbreaking all in one movie.

I can not think of anything bad to say about this film. It is well casted and all of the actors played their parts well. The appearance of Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat) was fun. I hardly recognized him. He was a fine choice for the part of Signor Adolfo Pirelli. Johnny Depp is one of my favorite actors, which also encouraged me to see the movie, even though I don’t like bloody violence. And there is plenty of blood in this film. That said, even if you are bothered by the slicing of throats and the grinding of corpses into meat pies, I would encourage you to see this movie, because it is a masterpiece.

With the Academy Awards coming up this Sunday, I thought this would be a good time to plug this movie. Sweeney Todd has been nominated for three Oscars. Best Actor, achievement in art direction and for costume design. I hope Johnny Depp finally picks up the Oscar he deserves.

Sweeney Todd is now Aaron’s all-time favorite movie, finally a movie he thought was better than Alfred Hitchcock’s classic Psycho. Here’s a trailer that Aaron made for Sweeney Todd:

Super Tuesday

Super Tuesday, the day of the largest simultaneous number of U.S. state presidential primary elections. Twenty-four states will hold either caucuses or primary elections for one or both parties today. Here in Massachusetts, I’m hoping Super Tuesday turns out better than the Super Bowl or at least gets as much public attention!

Let’s make History! Hillary 08
